One Dance.....

Today we are talking about a Drake song that is a little different than his usual song and music style. The song in question is considered more of a pop song than a traditional R&B and hip-hop song. The song is One Dance featuring Wizkid and Kyla and is from his album Views from the 6.

At first listen, One Dance is just a catchy pop song with lyrics that can easily get stuck in someone's head. That is true, but it also means a little bit more. It is about a man (Drake) and a woman that actually have some relationship problems.

The part of the song that points out these problems is actually a set of four lines. They say:

You know you gotta stick by me Soon as you see the text, reply me I don't wanna spend time fighting We've got no time.

The lyrics imply that the couple has had communication problems, and Drake just wants her to reply to his texts before the situation turns into a fight.

The chorus of the song is "I need a one dance" which makes us infer that Drake wants to have one more dance with the woman before he either A) has to leave the club, or B) before the situation escalates and they get into a fight.

One other thing that needs to be pointed out in this song that I did not realize before, was the meaning of the abbreviation OT. The song says "OT, OT is never much love when we go OT." I literally thought that OT stood for overtime, because that is how I always heard it. Well, turns out OT is slang from Toronto, Drake's hometown, that stands for "Out of Town".

So, I know what you are thinking--"Wow, I just thought the song was catchy and about dancing the night away." Nope, the song is talking about a possible dysfunctional relationship.
