Since you are reading this blog, it can be said that you possibly visited other pages on this website and heard our background song playing, which is Started From the Bottom by Drake. Started From the Bottom is what we are going to talk about in this blog post, so feel free to go to the home page of this site and listen to the song if you have never heard it before.

Started From the Bottom came out in February 2013 and had critics from the very start. The chorus of the song is “started from the bottom now we’re here, started from the bottom now my whole team f*cking here.” The lyrics imply that Drake came from a rough background and childhood, which is fine, but the problem is that people believe he did not.

Drake was born and raised in Canada where he lived with his mother who was a teacher. His dad was a drummer who lived in Tennessee. Since his family did not necessarily struggle with money in the “usual” sense, people who listened to the song were trying to discredit him and say that he was essentially a liar.

However, the song can be interpreted differently depending how people define “started from the bottom.” To me, started from the bottom does not have to be in reference to money. It can be in reference to a mental state, or even a physical state. He could be talking about living in a nicer city than he once did. Plus, the lyrics of the song never say anything about struggling with money.

I personally do not think that Drake is being deceiving in any way in the song. Of course, Twitter thought differently. You can’t win them all, amiright?
